What a wonderful time we had celebrating the 4th of July this year! We drove to Mount Dora, a little town big on history. We met some friends from church, including the Copelands, who brought their pontoon boat and docked it at the Lakeside Inn. The Inn was built in the late 1800's and is set in a beautiful spot right on Lake Dora. We took a long ride through the Dora Canal and over to Lake Eustis. The scenery was gorgeous! Later we took a walking tour of Mt. Dora, just window shopping since everything was closed. (Except the many restaurants, thank goodness.) Martin and I had a very good dinner then returned to the dock and relaxed with our friends, watching the sun set, waiting for the fireworks to start. The fireworks were set off over the water, very near where we were, and we truly enjoyed the show. A few of us had reserved rooms for the evening so we remained on the boat just talking and rocking and listening to the frogs. We all took turns saying, "Isn't this just so great?!" (Unfortunately the mosquitoes thought it was just great too.)
The next morning we all had breakfast on the porch of the inn, took one more quick boat ride then went our separate ways. Actually Martin and I went separate ways too. I drove the car home, dropping Adelaide Copeland off at work, and Martin helped Dan drive the boat back to their dock. I didn't see him again for HOURS! He got to go through the Dora Canal again as well as the locks between Lake Eustis and Lake Griffin. Martin is actually the only person other than Dan who has driven the boat through the narrow canal!
For the life of me I can't remember what we did last July 4th, but I will definitely remember this one!
